Ladies and gentlemen, I present Bacon
The intention of the flickr video stuff is stated as being "to allow 'long photos'" so they're going for a different market than the youtubes of the world, and have restricted video uploads to 90seconds/150MB to help push this. The "long photo" idea is sort of what I was going for above, before I started playing with iMovie and beret laden pretension, having shot the video after seeing the bacon slowly shrinking in the pan as it cooked - the bacons above are the second lot (of three) to go in the pan. I've often seen things that don't work as a still image, although I've often tried to capture them unsuccessfully, from flickering lights to the beauty of a plastic band floating on the wind (obligatory movie reference), and have often wondered what I'd do with such "long photos" other than leave them in a directory on my pc or stick them on youtube surrounded by clips made by the Nuts team. Now that flickr has put up video I can see a place that I can put up, tag, share and find other people's short videos, the long photos, that hopefully come from a similar reason for being taken as mine. However, I suspect that we'll see a proliferation of videos not complying with the plan, treating flickr as youtube light. I just hope I can avoid those.
