Testinge

In other non Rock Band related new, Flickr have released the ability to upload video today. As such, and so forth, I have put together my first masterpiece of video (which I was intending to use as a means of seeing if iMovie worked as well as seeing how to upload things to youtube).

Ladies and gentlemen, I present Bacon

The intention of the flickr video stuff is stated as being "to allow 'long photos'" so they're going for a different market than the youtubes of the world, and have restricted video uploads to 90seconds/150MB to help push this. The "long photo" idea is sort of what I was going for above, before I started playing with iMovie and beret laden pretension, having shot the video after seeing the bacon slowly shrinking in the pan as it cooked - the bacons above are the second lot (of three) to go in the pan. I've often seen things that don't work as a still image, although I've often tried to capture them unsuccessfully, from flickering lights to the beauty of a plastic band floating on the wind (obligatory movie reference), and have often wondered what I'd do with such "long photos" other than leave them in a directory on my pc or stick them on youtube surrounded by clips made by the Nuts team. Now that flickr has put up video I can see a place that I can put up, tag, share and find other people's short videos, the long photos, that hopefully come from a similar reason for being taken as mine. However, I suspect that we'll see a proliferation of videos not complying with the plan, treating flickr as youtube light. I just hope I can avoid those.

Yeah, I really like the idea of what flickr are aiming for with this. As you say, short films which capture what a still image can't but still have the sensibility of photograph.

The other aspect, for me, is that I feel more comfortable sharing my content with the flickr community than the YouTube community. Very different culture.

I'm starting to feel bad about posting my video now, as it isn't really what it's all about. I'll do better next time. Less beret...

I dunno, I think it has it's place. I mean the Fridget "meme" seems to be sponsored by flickr central so I think the remit is somewhat broader than initially stated.

As per, the community will decide; it's worked pretty well so far, I reckons.
